Un sustantivo es una palabra que se usa para identificar una persona, entidad, un lugar o un concepto. Todos los idiomas tiene palabras que son usadas de esta misma forma: en todos los idiomas es necesario nombrar o denominar a las personas, animales, lugares…. Por ejemplo: abrelatas abre-latastirachinas tira-chinaspelirrojo peli-rojo ,… siempre que se refieran a una sola cosa, estas palabras se consideran un sustantivo compuesto. Se utilizan para personas tu nombre propio es el mejor ejemplopara lugares, para festividades y celebraciones.

Los sustantivos contables se utilizan para referirse a objetos que son identificables como unidades que pueden contabilizarse, pero que forman un conjunto de una misma cosa. Por ejemplo, los frijoles o las cartas de una baraja. Podemos hablar de 50 tigres o de 4 personas.

Ejemplos de nombres no contables: agua, enfado, calor,…. Son los acabados en -ble amable-bre pobre-ante importante-ente insolente.
